Week one - here we go

Well hellotie there!

It's been a while since I've done this blogging thing. I was just thumbing through some old posts of my Live Journal (talk about old school) and figured I would start fresh. I didn't want to get rid of the posts on there from 5+ years ago just to start over again because it's memories. My past. Corny, I know. But I didn't want to expose them to the world either. I like to reflect on them on my own, share bits and pieces as necessary to people, chuckle, and then move on.

Anyways...on to business. The reason for starting this (other then another outlet for my loud mouth) is to share a few things that I would like to invite you to follow in the journey with me. So grab your knapsack and let's hit the road of good times!

First off - I am currently in training for my first 5k. Some of you might be thinking, "But Jen, you're a Fatty McButterpants and out of shape...have you totally gone off the deep end now??". The answer is why yes, yes I have. However I came across the Couch to 5k program online. The day I found this, I had contacted a fabulous friend of mine who had just so happened to recommend the same thing to me. The 5k I hope to be running in is the same day they have the Baltimore Marathon, however it is not part of the marathon. On that same day which they have named the Baltimore Running Festival there is not only the marathon, but the Maryland Double, a half marathon, the 5k, team relay, and a fun run for the young'uns. And for me it's not about placing, it's about doing it. I started Monday. And then was going to skip yesterday and continue to Day 2 of training today, but the weather report had some big storms forecasted for today so I opted to do Day 2 yesterday (Tuesday). Well, guess what??? NO STORMS!!! OK that's fine. But now I am sitting around on my fat ass blogging instead of running today. But at the same time I have to remember to take a days break or so to let my body rest. And believe me, I think the pain is really going to set in tomorrow and I won't be able to walk. But you know what I have to say to that? BRING IT!!! The mental motivation I have had so far is incredible and the feeling I get when I finish my training each day is just as pleasing. The second story - my brother and I have started an internet radio station. This blog will also be featured on my page when I get the website finished...one of these days. Check it out, it's a really nice blend of music and the whole basis of the station is that the music is truly controlled by what our listeners want to hear. So find us on Facebook, at One Warrior Nation Radio, or go to our website http://www.onewarriornationradio.com. From there it will take you to our temporary homepage with instructions on how to tune it. SPREAD THE WORD!!!

So until next time, whenever that might be, keep smiling!

  1. Jen,

I just recently got back into blogging myself, for a similar reason, since I'm training for the Baltimore full marathon! I hope I'll see you there. I was here on Blogger, but I can't blog at work from there so I just started up my livejournal again. I don't care so much that my old entries are on there, lol. They are all from before Connor was born. I will definitely check out your radio station and read your blog. I'm glad you've started running! Kill it! Let me know if you ever wanted a running buddy, I'll have to keep running after your done, but I'll run with you for as long as you like.

  2. Jen Manzo, you disgust me. Running? Really? Running is terrible.

I'm kidding. I give you loads of credit for this. It sounds like you have done your research and now you just need to make the time for it- that always seems to be the hardest part.

    Good luck, J!

  3. John - running buddies would be great! For now I am kind of doing this on my own until I can build up the stamina and confidence to run with more experienced runners. My brother trained with me on Monday, but has been on night work ever since. But it would be fun to jog together for the 5k!!

Lisa - you know you will be there at the finish line on race day to hand me a huge burrito as I am crawling across!! Apparently after the race you get two beer vouchers for Michelob Ultra. So you know what I have to say to that....plan on getting drunk that day as those two vouchers are probably going to steam roll into a bar crawl somewhere. I do want to celebrate with everyone when I am finished.....I may not even shower...just party in my funky glory. So October 16th is the day!!
